The heroine, Trixie’s, first words were not spoken, but shouted. “Knuffle Bunny!” she exclaimed, when her dad found her lost toy bunny. This is the story of how that came to be, on the day she went with her dad to the laundromat, and somebody, that is, somebunny got left behind. This Caldecott Honor book is the first in a series of three adorable picture books for small children by Mo Willems. The other two are Knuffle Bunny Too: a Case of Mistaken Identity, and Knuffle Bunny Free: an Unexpected Diversion.
The story follows Trixie and her dad through the streets of Brooklyn, NY, with drawings of the characters superimposed on black and white photos of real-life Brooklyn. It seems that Knuffle Bunny was accidentally put into the washing machine. All the way home, Trixie tries to tell her dad of the lost bunny, but uses only baby babble. After a hasty trip back to the laundromat, Knuffle Bunny is finally located, much to the delight of the Trixie, who is so happy, she shouts her first words, “Knuffle Bunny!”. These are adorable books for children. I highly recommend the entire series for your favorite child.
